The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, Tuesday ordered the deployment of Ms. Janet Agbede as the new Commissioner of Police<\/a> in Abia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She replaced Mr. Okon Ene who has been redeployed to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mba, in Abuja, said the deployment of Agbede followed the unprofessional conduct and misuse of a firearm by a policeman in Ebem Ohafia area of the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A trigger-happy policeman had on Friday killed one Ifeanyi Arunsi in Ohafia, a development that caused crisis in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Irked by the unprovoked killing, some youths in the community set ablaze a police station and released the detainees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They also destroyed a police patron van and other properties belonging to the Force in the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement said the IGP condemned the unfortunate incident, adding that it was glaring that the policeman was unprofessional in his conduct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also condemned the resort to self-help by some people in the area and the destruction of government property and operational assets of the police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adamu also constituted a Special Investigation Panel headed by Mr. Anthony Ogbizi, the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation<\/a> Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
