Research by the Department of Homeland Security in the United States reveals that coronavirus can be killed by sunlight in a matter of minutes. According to the study, radiation given off by ultraviolet light damages the virus’ genetic material and hampers its ability to replicate. Results of the research were presented to reporters at the White House last night by William Bryan, a science and technology advisor attached to the Department of Homeland Security. U.S President Donald Trump spoke in support of the research. Bryson revealed that increased temperature and humidity were also detrimental to the virus. \u201cOur most striking observation to date is the powerful effect that solar light appears to have on killing the virus, both surfaces and in the air,\u201d he said. \u201cWe’ve seen a similar effect with both temperature and humidity as well, where increasing the temperature and humidity or both are generally less favourable to the virus,\u201d he added. The study was carried out by the National Biodefense Analysis and Countermeasures Center. The results suggest the coronavirus is most stable in lower humidity than compared to higher temperatures. U.S President Donald Trump appeared intrigued by the research after Bryan\u2019s presentation. \u201cSuppose we hit the body with a tremendous ultraviolet or just very powerful light,\u201d Trump said, following Bryan\u2019s presentation. \u201cI think that hasn\u2019t been checked but you\u2019re going to test it,\u201d he added. Researchers could also bring \u201cthe light inside the body,\u201d Trump said, \u201ceither through the skin or in some other way.\u201d U.S Vice President Mike Pence called Bryan’s presentation “encouraging news about the impact of that heat and sunlight have on the coronavirus, which will increase the confidence that we feel about the coming summer.” <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
