16 persons, suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect\nand Islamic State, West Africa Province have surrendered themselves, along with\neight of their wives, to army troops at Fotokol in Borno State.

\nThis followed consistent raids, clearance patrols, sting operations,\ncordon and search operations as well as mortar and artillery bombardment of\nidentified insurgents and bandits\u2019 hideouts in the northern parts of the\ncountry within the past one week.
\n
\nThe coordinator of the Nigerian Army Operations (Media), Colonel Aminu\nIliayasu, made the disclosure in a statement made available to Saturday, on\nFriday.
\n
\n
\nStating several other suspected terrorists were neutralized in the\noperations, the army media coordinator further said several Boko Haram\nlogistics suppliers and informants were also intercepted and arrested by troops\nof Operation Lafiya Dole.
\n
\n\u201cOn 1 November 2019 for instance, 16 insurgents along, with eight of\ntheir spouses who could no longer bear the heat from the onslaught against them\nsurrendered to the relentless troops of Sector 1, Multinational Joint Task\nForce at Fotokol.
\n
\n\u201cSubsequently, the surrendered insurgents were later handed over to\ntroops of 3 Battalion (Main) at Gamboru Ngala, a border town north-east of\nBorno State.
\n
\n\u201cDuring preliminary interrogation and profiling, they confessed to\nhave actively participated in attacks conducted against both military and\ncivilian targets at various times,\u201d the statement read.
\n
\nColonel Aminu listed the names of 14 of the suspects as Ibrahim Bunu,\nAbba Sale, Baba Lamba Alhaji, Bukar Isa, Bukar Ali, Rawa Abba Gana, Mustapha\nAbatcha, Umar Abubakar, Hassan Bukar, Malam Abatcha Ali, Abba Umar Abatcha,\nHussaini Babagana, Idris Mohammed and Umar Abba Bayoma.

\nHe said the 14 suspects were members of the Islamic State West Africa\nProvince (ISWAP), led by Al-Barnawi, while the remaining two, Hassan Kawu and\nBabagana Bukar Adijabe, belonged to Boko Haram (the Abubakar Shekau faction).

\n\u201cThe repentant insurgents, however, regretted their participation in\nthe heinous crimes they committed against humanity and are now calling on their\nformer colleagues to retrace their steps and also surrender to troops before it\nis too late,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
