{"id":12301,"date":"2020-05-07T08:41:05","date_gmt":"2020-05-07T08:41:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=12301"},"modified":"2020-05-07T08:41:14","modified_gmt":"2020-05-07T08:41:14","slug":"afenifere-rejects-composition-of-federal-character-commission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=12301","title":{"rendered":"Afenifere rejects composition of Federal Character Commission"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i3.wp.com\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Yinka-Odumakin.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, on Wednesday, claimed the composition of the Federal Character Commission was designed to favour a particular&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/the-whole-of-seast-gave-me-one-local-govts-votes-yet-ive-been-fair-to-the-zone-buhari\/\">geopolitical zone<\/a>&nbsp;in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The organization said in a statement titled: Federal Character Commission: \u201cShunning the principle of federal character,\u201d and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Yinka Odumakin, implored the Senate not to approve the nomination of one Farida Dankaka as FCC chairman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Afenifere also vowed that it would not allow President Muhammadu Buhari to get away with another infraction at the commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It said: \u201cThough it is now a familiar pattern, Afenifere will not allow President Muhammadu Buhari to get away with yet another infraction at the Federal Character Commission (FCC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe FCC, according to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is meant to be the custodian of the principle of Federal Character and is saddled with the responsibility of ensuring that all federal agencies and parastatals in Nigeria respect and adhere to this Principle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAfenifere calls on Senate to reject FCC nominee for chairman, Farida Dankaka. The Federal Character Commission by the nomination of the new chairman would have a chairman from North (Kwara) and Secretary from the North (Taraba) in violation of Section 4 of the subsidiary legislation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe section states that \u2018Where the number of positions available cannot go round the states of the federation or the Federal Capital, the distribution shall be on zonal basis. But in the case where two positions are available, the positions shall be shared between the northern and southern zones\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis has always been the tradition; that Chairman and Secretary are from the North and South, respectively.
