{"id":12325,"date":"2020-05-07T08:51:17","date_gmt":"2020-05-07T08:51:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=12325"},"modified":"2020-05-07T08:51:22","modified_gmt":"2020-05-07T08:51:22","slug":"covid-19-nigerian-govt-grants-2-month-licence-waiver-to-broadcast-stations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=12325","title":{"rendered":"COVID-19: Nigerian govt grants 2-month licence waiver to broadcast stations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i3.wp.com\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Lai-Mohammed-smiling.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said on Wednesday the Federal Government had granted a two-month licence fee waiver for terrestrial broadcast stations in a bid to cushion the effect of COVID-19 on the broadcast industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mohammed, who disclosed this at a meeting with the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) in Abuja, said the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/federal-government-hopes\/\">federal government<\/a>&nbsp;had approved the request by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to grant the waiver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The minister said the government also approved the distribution of protective equipment to some community broadcast stations across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He acknowledged that BON members and other sectors of the creative industry had been hit hard by the effects of COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He disclosed that the government was taking a holistic approach to address the damage inflicted by COVID-19 on the creative industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mohammed said: \u201cLet me stress here that the creative industry is a very critical sector of the nation\u2019s economy and a major plank of the economic diversification policy of this administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt creates the highest number of jobs after agriculture, especially for the youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTherefore, there is no doubt that we need a collective and government-supported approach in dealing with the immediate, short and long term palliatives and initiatives for the industry, in order to mitigate the effect of the pandemic on the sector.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He disclosed that government had decided to set up a committee of industry&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/ignore-pandef-group-of-old-brigades-militants-tell-nigerian-govt-as-feud-between-niger-delta-stakeholders-deepens\/\">stakeholders<\/a>&nbsp;to advise it on the best way to mitigate the effect of the pandemic on the industry.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said on Wednesday the Federal Government had granted a two-month licence fee waiver for terrestrial broadcast stations in a bid to cushion the effect of COVID-19 on the broadcast industry.
