The Ministry of Youth and Sports has placed mother of former Nigeria international, Rashidi Yekini, on a N10,000 monthly stipend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was disclosed to newsmen at Ijagbo, near Offa in Kwara where a representative of the Minister, Mr Olaitan Shittu, visited Alhaja Yekini on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sum of N50,000 was also donated by the Minister as part of the Ramadan gifts to Yekini\u2019s mother, including a 50 kg bag of rice, 10 kg bag of wheat and six tins of Milo beverage drink.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ministry also disclosed its intention to pay a similar visit to the mother of another Nigeria legend, Sam Okwaraji, who is known as the Nigerian football martyr.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reacting to the gestures, Alhaja Yekini told the News Agency of Nigeria: \u201cThis minister (Sunday Dare) has done very well, especially remembering me in this holy month of Ramadan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She went on to explain how she had been abandoned for a long time and have not seen any help from anyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yekini, who represented Nigeria in two FIFA World Cups, died eight years ago in Ibadan after retiring from professional football.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Nigeria, he scored 37 goals from 58 games and was the scorer of the first ever Nigerian goal at the World Cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
