\nMr Otedola, who was represented by another one of his daughters, Tolani, made\nthe announcement during the \u2018Gold Gala\u2019, an event by his daughter at Transcorp\nHilton Hotel, Abuja, on Sunday evening, to a standing ovation from guests in\nattendance.<\/strong>

\nTolani said, \u201cMy father, Mr Femi Otedola, has been at the forefront of\nsupporting worthy causes. It is in this spirit that he will be donating the sum\nof N5bn to the children of Borno, Adamawa and Katsina through Save the\nChildren.\u201d
\n
\nAmong the guests were Vice-President Yemi Osinbjao; CEO, Save the Children, UK,\nKevin Watkins; Mr Femi Otedola; entrepreneur, Hajia Bola Shagaya; Ambassador\nBabagana Kingibe; and Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Niyi Adebayo.<\/strong>

\nThey also included the Senator Gabriel Suswam, Representative of Senate\nPresident, Ahmad Lawan; Minister of State for Transport, Gbemisola Saraki;\nNational Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole; Alhaji\nAliko Dangote; and his daughter Hajia Halima Dangote.

\nOthers were Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Paulen Tallen; former Governor of\nBorno State, Gen Buba Marwa; Group CEO, Oando Plc, Wale Tinubu; Governor of\nLagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun; and\nGovernor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum.<\/strong>

\nCuppy\u2019s godfather, Dangote, who is the owner of the Dangote Group, also made\na donation of N100m.<\/strong>

\nThe businessman told guests that they should not just allow government\nto do everything as even government had \u201ca lot of challenges.\u201d

\nDangote said, \u201cTo whom much is given much is expected. It gives me\ngreat pleasure to be here supporting my brother, Femi, making this kind of big\ndonation. I believe we need more Nigerians to have big hearts to give back to\nthe needy.

\n\u201cPeople find it very difficult in Nigeria to give money away but the\nmore you give the more God blesses you. Femi, you are no more a rich man. You\nhave joined the league of wealthy men. I have said I will give more of my money\nwhen I pass away.

\n\u201cTo Cuppy, I must congratulate you for having a big heart to visit\nthose children in Borno. She spent about four days with them playing with them.\nIn the light of this, I am making a donation of N100m.\u201d

\nThe young philanthropist, who is also an ambassador of the Save the\nChildren UK, a non-governmental organisation, said her foundation, which was\nlaunched in August 2018, was inspired by a trip to Maiduguri, Borno State.

\nAccording to Miss Otedola, she started the foundation as a way of\ngiving back to the less fortunate.
\n
\nShe said, \u201cBecoming an ambassador for Save the Children has exposed me\nto so many children around the world.
\n
\n\u201dI was able to visit Save the Children in Maiduguri with the help of\nmy godfather Alhaji Aliko Dangote.\u201d

\nOsinbajo, in his address, told the guests that the event must refocus\ntheir minds on caring for the poor and malnourished especially in Nigeria.

\nAccording to the Vice President, in 2015, Buhari proposed the \u201clargest\nsocial investment program in Africa\u201d of about N500bn annually.
\n
\nHe added, \u201cYet we are far from where we ought to be. It is obvious\nthat government cannot do it alone. So, we don\u2019t (all) need to be billionaires\n(to do our part).
