{"id":13161,"date":"2020-05-13T09:16:50","date_gmt":"2020-05-13T09:16:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=13161"},"modified":"2020-05-13T09:17:59","modified_gmt":"2020-05-13T09:17:59","slug":"ptf-warns-against-sharing-recycling-of-face-masks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=13161","title":{"rendered":"PTF warns against sharing, recycling of face masks"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i3.wp.com\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/nigerians-on-facemask.jpg\" alt=\"OHANEZE TO NDIGBO: Don\u2019t wear face masks from China, use 'Aba made'\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Presidential Task Force on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/tag\/COVID-19\">COVID-19<\/a>&nbsp;on Tuesday warned Nigerians against sharing of face mask or picking such from dumpsites and recycling it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chairman of PTF, Boss Mustapha, who is also the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), gave the warning during Tuesday\u2019s press briefing by the PTL in Abuja, adding that the task force has been reliably informed of this unhealthy practice amongst some Nigerians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mustapha said: \u201cThe PTF has become aware of the on-going practice of sharing masks and picking of masks for recycling from dumpsites. This places a lot of responsibility on all of us to be self-educated and to educate others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cExcept for fabric masks, every disposable used mask is a hazardous medical waste and should be disposed of properly, preferably by burning;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is very risky to share masks as the virus is capable of remaining on surfaces for several hours and you could get infected;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe unhealthy practice of picking up disposed masks for whatever purpose is harmful to both the individual picking it and whoever procures it later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cParticularly, it will be helpful for high-risk people such as the elderly and those with comorbidities, to wear masks or face covering and avoid crowded places. As we reminded you earlier, please keep grandchildren away from their grandparents to avoid any transmission.
