The National Leader of the All Progressives\nCongress, (APC), Ashiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Prime Minister of Ethiopia,\nAbiy Ahmed, have won the African Democracy Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A statement on Tuesday said they were\nrecognised for their efforts to grow democracy and good governance on the African\ncontinent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the statement, the award was\nconferred on them at the 4th African Political Summit and Diamond Awards in\nAddis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The award was said to be the highlight of a\nthree-day conference on campaign financing and elections in Africa, an\ninitiative of the Association of Political Consultants, Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The body is made up of top political\nconsultants from across the continent<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The award, according to the president of APC\nAfrica, Kehinde Bamigbetan, \u201cserves to recognise and encourage icons of democracy\nand good governance in Africa. It has been our culture to celebrate those\npolitical figures who have done a lot to promote democracy in their respective\ncountries.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He described Tinubu as an outstanding leader\nwho had done a lot to strengthen democracy, human rights, press freedom and\npeace in East Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bamigbetan said the APC national leader was\nrecognised for his commitment to democracy and human rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Asiwaju is a political figure whose impacts\nhave been felt not just in Nigeria, especially with the historic election of\nPresident Muhammadu Buhari on the platform of the opposition APC, but also\nacross many countries in Africa,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
