{"id":16588,"date":"2020-05-29T09:25:23","date_gmt":"2020-05-29T09:25:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=16588"},"modified":"2020-05-29T09:25:31","modified_gmt":"2020-05-29T09:25:31","slug":"icpc-begins-probe-into-alleged-fraud-in-management-of-covid-19-funds-palliatives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=16588","title":{"rendered":"ICPC begins probe into alleged fraud in management of COVID-19 funds, palliatives"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i3.wp.com\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/Bolaji-Owasanoye.jpg\" alt=\"Bolaji-Owasanoye\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) said on Thursday it had commenced an investigation into the alleged corruption in the management of COVID-19 funds and palliatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The commission\u2019s Director of Operations, Akeem Lawal, who disclosed this during a virtual meeting of stakeholders titled: \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/kogi-govt-rejects-ncdcs-claim-insists-state-still-free-of-covid-19\/\">COVID-19<\/a>&nbsp;Funds Management and Monitoring,\u201d said the ICPC was probing alleged fraud by some participating public institutions in the release and distribution of grains from the strategic food reserve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Others include alleged infractions in the procurement of COVID-19 palliatives and logistics, and community enlightenment activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ICPC official also accused some state governments of using the COVID-19 pandemic to financially exploit the local government councils.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to him, there were also cases of diversion of COVID-19 logistics and contingency emergency fund into a personal account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lawal said: \u201cIn all cases of infraction, culprits will be investigated and prosecuted.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added that the ICPC was monitoring the distribution of money and food under the Conditional Cash Transfer Scheme and the Home School Feeding Programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said the commission\u2019s intervention in the COVID-19 fund management was pursuant to its corruption prevention, enforcement, and public sensitization mandate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He stressed that the aim of the intervention was to ensure transparency and accountability in the utilization of the funds as directed by President Muhammadu&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/fight-against-bandits-zamfara-pdp-disagrees-with-commissioner-says-buhari-has-done-well\/\">Buhari<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) said on Thursday it had commenced an investigation into the alleged corruption in the management of COVID-19 funds and palliatives.
