{"id":19136,"date":"2020-06-05T08:11:16","date_gmt":"2020-06-05T08:11:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=19136"},"modified":"2020-06-05T08:11:21","modified_gmt":"2020-06-05T08:11:21","slug":"covid-19-ncdc-releases-new-guidelines-on-patients-treatment-discharge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=19136","title":{"rendered":"COVID-19: NCDC releases new guidelines on patients\u2019 treatment, discharge"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i3.wp.com\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/Chikwe-Ihewkweazu.-.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihewkweazu, on Thursday, unveiled new case management guidelines for the treatment and discharge of COVID-19 patients in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ihekweazu, who unveiled the guidelines at the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 (PTF) media briefing in Abuja, said the third version of the directives was released following the emergence of new facts on the virus for individual patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said the guidelines were for symptomatic and asymptomatic patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/confirmation-of-covid-19-cases-in-kogi-not-controversial-in-anyway-ncdc\/\">NCDC<\/a>&nbsp;chief, symptomatic patients will now be discharged at least 10 days after symptom onset and at least three days without symptoms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: \u201cFor asymptomatic patients, they can be discharged 14 days after the first PCR positive test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe no longer have to wait for a negative test to discharge, with the confidence that you can go home and you are no longer infective or putting family or friends at risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf your symptoms last longer, we will wait while managing it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ihekweazu said physicians were hesitant about the new guidelines, assuring that the new guidelines are effective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The NCDC chief said the centre had also removed the use of anti-virals,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/chloroquine-price-hike-weve-filed-criminal-charges-against-4-major-pharmacies-fccpc\/\">Chloroquine<\/a>&nbsp;and hydroxychloroquine from its treatment guidelines.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihewkweazu, on Thursday, unveiled new case management guidelines for the treatment and discharge of COVID-19 patients in the country.
