{"id":1991,"date":"2019-11-21T13:41:05","date_gmt":"2019-11-21T13:41:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=1991"},"modified":"2019-11-21T13:46:55","modified_gmt":"2019-11-21T13:46:55","slug":"social-media-bill-second-reading-in-senate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=1991","title":{"rendered":"Social Media Bill Second Reading in Senate"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Senate on Tuesday passed the bill for an Act to make\nprovisions for the protection from internet falsehood and manipulations and\nrelated matters, for a second reading.<br>\n<br>\nIt is popularly known as anti-Social media bill, sponsored by the\nSenator representing Niger East Senatorial District, Sani Musa.<br>\n<br>\nOnly Senator Chimaroke Nnamani, a former governor of Enugu State,\nspoke against the bill while Senator Bala Ibn Na\u2019Allah raised a constitutional\npoint of order to caution the red chamber against its passage.<br>\n<br>\nHowever, Senators Ibrahim Gobir, Elisha Abbo, and Abba Moro supported\nthe bill in their various contributions during the debate that lasted about 10\nminutes.<br>\n<br>\nThe Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, put the passage of the bill for a\nsecond reading to a voice vote after confirming that no senator was ready to\nspeak against it.<br>\n<br>\nThe majority of the lawmakers in the chamber unanimously voted in\nsupport of the bill and it was read the second time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Senate on Tuesday passed the bill for an Act to make provisions for the protection from internet falsehood and manipulations and related matters, for a second reading.
