The Burundi government<\/a> spokesperson Prosper Ntahorwamiye has revealed that the power vacuum in the country will \u2018last a few days\u2019 as they are still \u201cconsulting the constitutional court\u201d on the succession of Pierre Nkurunziza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ntahorwamiye said the court is \u201cstudying the power vacancy\u201d and \u201cwill take a few days\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is uncertainty over who is going to take over the presidency after Mr Nkurunziza died on Monday aged 55 after suffering a cardiac arrest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the government has denied reports that the mother of the late president has also died.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Ntahorwamiye said Mr Nkurunziza\u2019s mother \u201cis sick but not dead\u201d. He added that the nature of her illness was a private matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a related development, the country\u2019s first lady Denise Nkurunziza returned<\/a> home on Tuesday evening from Kenya where she had been hospitalised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She was discharged on Tuesday, an official at the private Kenyan hospital where she was staying told the BBC, without giving details about her condition.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
