Social\nmedia celebrity, Ismaila Mustapha, popularly known as Mompha, has filed a suit\nagainst the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alleging unlawful\ndetention and a violation of his rights.

\nMompha was\narrested on October 19 at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on\nallegations of cybercrime and money laundering.
\n
\nThe\nInstagram celebrity has now filed a fundamental rights enforcement suit at the\nLagos State High Court in Igbosere through his lawyer, Gboyega Oyewole.
\n
\nIgbere TV\nreports that Mompha is demanding damages of N5 million for his unlawful\ndetention without trial.
\n
\nHe prayed\nthe court to order the EFCC to either immediately charge him to court or release\nhim if it was not ready to charge him to court.
\n
\nMr.\nOyewole said his client, as a Nigerian, was entitled to the protection of his\nfundamental rights under sections 34, 35 and 36 of the 1999 constitution.
\n
\nAccording\nto him, the court order to keep Mompha had since expired and he ought to be\nreleased.
\n
\nA date is\nyet to be fixed for hearing of the case.

\nThe EFCC\nin late October arrested a Lebanese and two other suspected accomplices of\nMompha.
\n
