{"id":21618,"date":"2020-06-17T10:26:53","date_gmt":"2020-06-17T10:26:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=21618"},"modified":"2020-06-17T10:26:58","modified_gmt":"2020-06-17T10:26:58","slug":"he-wont-get-our-ticket-pdp-may-have-sealed-obasekis-guber-ambition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=21618","title":{"rendered":"\u2018He won\u2019t get our ticket\u2019, PDP may have sealed Obaseki\u2019s guber ambition"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i3.wp.com\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Obaseki-Godwin-e1522862328313.jpg\" alt=\"FALLOUT OF SWEEPERS' PROTEST: Gov Obaseki fires Commissioner\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>More revelations have emerged in the ongoing power tussle in Edo State, in the run-up to the forthcoming governorship election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the suspension of national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC),&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/tag\/Oshiomhole\/\">Adams Oshiomhole<\/a>, the state\u2019s power equation has changed, as the party, being a major contender for the coveted seat has had its strenght weakened, as Oshiomhole, a former governor of the state, hoping to rove as a godfather now wields less influence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With recent developments surrounding the certificate saga of the incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki, and his disqualification from the race by the APC, leading to his resignation from the party, speculations are rife that he is on his way to the main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While many feel his position as incumbent will earn him the party\u2019s ticket, Ripples Nigeria gathered that this may not be the case, as sources inside the party say the contending interests in the party would not make this possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Read also:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/pdp-set-to-receive-obaseki-but-says-he-wont-get-automatic-ticket\/\">Edo deputy governor joins Obaseki, quits APC<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A highly placed source within the party revealed that though Obaseki comes with good credentials, and obviously weigthy financial war chest, the PDP is also not a \u201cbaby party\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The source who spoke on condition of anonymity said, \u201cour great party would be glad to have him, but I don\u2019t think he would get the ticket. For now what we may offer him is a chance to nominate appointments, and give him a soft landing when he leaves.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMark my words, he won\u2019t get our ticket but we\u2019ll treat him fine, at least far better than what his former party had in stock for him\u201d, the source added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Political analysts conversant with Edo politics have suggested that&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/tag\/Obaseki\">Obaseki<\/a>&nbsp;is likely to take a PDP deal, or move to a less known party, where he would be able to call the shots.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>More revelations have emerged in the ongoing power tussle in Edo State, in the run-up to the forthcoming governorship election.
