{"id":23171,"date":"2020-07-03T13:35:53","date_gmt":"2020-07-03T13:35:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=23171"},"modified":"2020-07-03T13:36:03","modified_gmt":"2020-07-03T13:36:03","slug":"nupeng-threatens-strike-over-bad-roads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=23171","title":{"rendered":"NUPENG threatens strike over bad roads"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i3.wp.com\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/36-Immediately-before-Benin-bypass-along-Sapele-Benin-road.jpg\" alt=\"#FasholaTakeTheRoadChallenge: We visited Warri-Sapele-Benin road; see what we found\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has threatened to down tools over the poor state of roads in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The union gave the federal government a two-week ultimatum to respond to their agitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Williams Akporeha, the union\u2019s president, on Thursday at the virtual meeting of the National Executive Council noted that owners of petroleum products experience difficulties moving their products across the country due to the deplorable state of roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: \u201cWe wish to urgently draw the attention of the federal government to the harrowing experiences of the owners of petroleum trucks in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe only means of moving petroleum products across the country is by roads, using the trucks. We can confidently tell you that this means of distribution is presently endangered and require urgent federal government stimulus intervention fund to prevent it from total collapse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He however, urged the Nigerian government to immediately address the issue of multiple roadblocks and extortions from all security personnel, and that failure to yield to the warning of the union might lead to \u201ca serious industrial action to drive home our case.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe issue of bad roads is further compounded by the various security agencies who now set up multiple checkpoints on these deplorable roads to further exploit and extort money from motorists. Petroleum tanker drivers are the worst hit by the exploitative tendencies of these unscrupulous security agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe brazen extortion of our members, especially during this&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/tag\/COVID-19\">COVID-19<\/a>&nbsp;pandemic was really disconcerting and unfortunate,\u201d Mr Akporeha stated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has threatened to down tools over the poor state of roads in the country.
