{"id":23360,"date":"2020-07-06T14:24:05","date_gmt":"2020-07-06T14:24:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=23360"},"modified":"2020-07-06T14:24:05","modified_gmt":"2020-07-06T14:24:05","slug":"alleged-n2-2bn-fraud-court-adjourns-fayoses-trial-as-efcc-witness-fails-to-show-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=23360","title":{"rendered":"ALLEGED N2.2BN FRAUD: Court adjourns Fayose\u2019s trial as EFCC witness fails to show up"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i3.wp.com\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Ayo-Fayose.jpg\" alt=\"FAYOSE TO FAYEMI: How can I attend your inauguration when I\u2019m expected at EFCC office?\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The trial of immediate past Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, failed to go on as scheduled on Monday (today) due to the absence of a prosecution witness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/tag\/EFCC\">Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)<\/a>, is prosecuting Fayose over alleged N2.2 billion fraud before Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court, Lagos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/fayose-lacks-moral-right-to-criticize-our-govt-apc\/\">Fayose<\/a>&nbsp;was in court today but the trial could not go on as the counsel to the EFCC, Rotimi Jacobs told the trial judge that the prosecution witness, who was supposed to testify, was not available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jacob\u2019s said that the witness told him that \u201cone of his family members was being quarantined in an Isolation centre,\u201d over COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He, therefore, prayed the court for an adjournment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fayose\u2019s lawyer, Olalekan Ojo, did not oppose the request for an adjournment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Consequently, Justice Aneke adjourned the matter to October 20, 2020, for the continuation of the trial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the court sat on the matter on March 5, 2020, the EFCC called its fifth witness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fifth witness, Johnson Abidakun, a banker, who worked as Head of Operations at the Ado Ekiti Branch of Zenith Bank, told the court that the bank moved the sum of N200 million from Fayose\u2019s home sometime in April 2016.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The trial of immediate past Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, failed to go on as scheduled on Monday (today) due to the absence of a prosecution witness.
