The newly elected President of Malawi, Lazarus Chakwera has received hard knocks from critics after naming his relatives as ministers in his new cabinet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reports say the president\u2019s former running mate in the 2019 elections Sidik Mia has been appointed minister for transport while his wife Abida Mia is the deputy minister for lands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chakwera<\/a> also appointed Kenny Kandodo as the new labour minister while his sister Khumbize Kandodo is the health minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Businessman Gospel Kazako was also appointed information minister and his (Chakwera\u2019s) sister-in-law Agnes Nkusa Nkhoma is the deputy agriculture minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Critics are also angry that President Chakwera\u2019s cabinet also comprises more than 70% of people from the central region which happens to be his political stronghold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Angry Malawians online reacted to the appointments:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alfie Saweta wrote: \u201cI will not lie, I am greatly underwhelmed by the cabinet list. Perhaps our expectations were too high. Husband and wife and the wife\u2019s cousin all in one cabinet, really?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hugo Mlewa wrote<\/a>: \u201cHe should have avoided family relations, simple\u2026son of\u2026husband of\u2026brother of\u2026 Work hard work hard while he is lazy appointing families\u2026Chilima said Malawi is not a family affair\u2026 two families.
