{"id":23997,"date":"2020-07-10T14:05:56","date_gmt":"2020-07-10T14:05:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=23997"},"modified":"2020-07-10T14:06:02","modified_gmt":"2020-07-10T14:06:02","slug":"we-lose-n14bn-monthly-to-nercs-tariff-system-discos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=23997","title":{"rendered":"We lose N14bn monthly to NERC\u2019s tariff system \u2013DisCos"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i3.wp.com\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Electricity-power-plant.jpg\" alt=\"Transcorp Power Consortium beats two others to win Afam Power Plc bid\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Power distribution companies (Discos) Thursday said the capped tariff system introduced by industry watchdog, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), into electricity pricing cost them N13.9 billion in revenue loss every month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Discos requested realistic indices before the execution of a new value-reflective tariff regime earlier timed to kick off on 1st July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NERC had in late June postponed the proposed tariff hike to the first quarter 0f 2020, citing the outrageous size of Nigeria\u2019s unmetered population (60%), which it said was a \u201cmajor impediment to both an immediate tariff review and revenue protection of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/nass-discos-agree-to-halt-tariff-hike\/\">DisCos<\/a>,\u201d among other grounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ernest Mupwaya, Managing Director Abuja Electricity Distribution Company stated this while making a presentation on behalf of power distributors at a public hearing arranged by the House of Representatives Committee on Power that a number of hitches must be addressed before the new tariff teed off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOne of them is the removal of estimated billing caps.
