{"id":24529,"date":"2020-07-14T14:39:18","date_gmt":"2020-07-14T14:39:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=24529"},"modified":"2020-07-14T14:39:18","modified_gmt":"2020-07-14T14:39:18","slug":"covid-19-lagos-govt-begs-striking-doctors-explains-alleged-disengagements","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=24529","title":{"rendered":"COVID-19: Lagos govt begs striking doctors, explains alleged \u2018disengagements\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Commissioner-for-Information-and-Strategy-Gbenga-Omotoso.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lagos State government has begged striking doctors to return to work following ongoing negotiation between the two parties, amid the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The appeal was made on Monday by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, after a joint meeting between the Commissioners for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi; Establishments, Training and Pensions, Mrs Ajibola Ponnle, and the Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, as well as all the permanent secretaries of the Ministry of Health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Omotosho said after the meeting that it was worrisome that some members of this noble profession would down tools at a time when their services are mostly required due to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/tag\/COVID-19\">COVID-19 pandemic<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Omotoso, \u201cit is pertinent to note that the state government expresses extreme disappointment that the Guild continued with their warning strike despite a series of engagements with government aimed at resolving some of the grievances raised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMany issues have already been resolved, while unresolved issues are still being deliberated upon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is worrisome that some members of this noble profession would down tool at a time when their services are mostly required. We believe this action is insensitive and lacks empathy which our profession epitomises.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Omotoso stated further that&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/worship-centres-remain-closed-in-lagos-sanwo-olu\/\">Governor Sanwo-Olu<\/a>&nbsp;has been extremely supportive of health workers being mindful of the extreme sacrifices that healthcare professionals are demonstrating in the COVID-19 response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are currently rotating our health workers who are engaged in providing care at the isolation facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey are not being dismissed, this is wrong information.
