President Muhammadu Buhari says that he will not accept\nunderperformance from any All Progressives Congress
\n(APC) Governor, following the overwhelming victory of the party at the 2019 General\nElections.
\n
\nHe urged the Governors to channel resources and initiatives to what will\nbenefit Nigerian citizens.
\n
\nBuhari made the remarks in Jos on Monday while declaring open the third Federal\nGovernment\/Progressives Governors Forum\u2019s parley on \u201cStrengthening Public\nService Delivery\u201d hosted by Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong.
\n
\n\u201cEarly in 2019, Nigeria overwhelmingly re-elected me as President. That\nelection was a referendum on not just my leadership but also on our party. Some\nState Governors were re-elected while new ones also came on board,\u201d Secretary\nto Government of the Federation (SGF) Boss Mustapha stated, delivering the\nPresident\u2019s message.
\n
\n\u201cTo whom much is given, much more is expected. It is therefore incumbent on\nthis to meet the expectations of our teeming population. There should be no\nroom for excuses and that is where the outcome of this parley becomes very\ncritical.\u201d
\n
\nThe President mentioned that insecurity has remained a major obstacle of his\nadministration but expressed strong determination to overcome the challenge and\nsecure the country.
\n
\nHe reiterated the protection of lives and property as the primary\nresponsibility of government and called on citizens to be active participants\nin security matters.
\n
\nBuhari said the APC government will do everything to sustain the country\u2019s\neconomic recovery efforts and reinforce the microeconomic policies to achieve\nsustainable economic stability in the country.
\n
\nPlateau State Governor and Chairman of the Northern Governor\u2019s Forum Simon\nLalong said despite the challenges facing the country, the APC has recorded\ntremendous progress in reshaping the economy, rebuilding infrastructure,\ncreating jobs and improving security of of lives and prosperity.
\n
\n\u201cWe must admit that there is still more work to be done considering the level\nof decay we inherited in our various states. That is why we have commended Mr.\nPresident for leading the way in the determination to deliver change and take\nNigeria to the next level,\u201d Lalong stated.
\n
\nChairman of the Progressives Governors and Governor of Kebbi State Abubakar\nAtiku Bagudu appreciated those who led the campaign that culminated to the\nre-election of Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State and the victory of David\nLyon of Bayelsa State as Governor-elect, victories which brought the number of\nthe APC Governors to 20.
\n
\nHe said that the Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari has\nbrought crucial intervention to the states which has enabled them pay salaries\nand pensions, and has expended N23 billion to states ravaged by floods.
\n
\nBagudu expressed pleasure over the Buhari administration\u2019s zero-oil policy, a\npolicy which he said has compelled most state Governors to look inward for\ndomestic revenue sources in order to become economically sustainable.
\n
\nChairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Adams Oshomhole, on his part,\nsaid Nigerians must support the Federal Government\u2019s policy on the closure of\nNigeria\u2019s land borders, a move which according to him has curtailed the\ninfiltration of fake products into the country.
\n
\nHe urged the APC Governors to partner with the party leadership to make the\nparty a strong and a formidable institution in the country.
