{"id":2609,"date":"2019-12-01T01:37:02","date_gmt":"2019-12-01T01:37:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=2609"},"modified":"2019-12-01T01:37:05","modified_gmt":"2019-12-01T01:37:05","slug":"samuel-adegbola-supreme-court-dethrones-first-class-oyo-monarch-eleruwa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=2609","title":{"rendered":"Samuel Adegbola: Supreme Court Dethrones First Class Oyo Monarch, Eleruwa"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Supreme court on Friday dethroned a first-class monarch\nin Oyo State, the Eleruwa of Eruwa, Oba Samuel Adegbola.<br>\n<br>\nThe PUNCH recalls that Adegbola had in 2013 lost a 15-year battle to\nretain his throne at the Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan.<br>\n<br>\nThe monarch and six others brought a suit against Mr James Olatunde\nIdowu and four others following a judgment delivered by Justice Ladipo Abimbola\nof the State High Court on January 26, 2011, that the current Eleruwa was\nwrongly picked for the throne.<br>\n<br>\nJustice Monica B. Dongban-Mensan, in 50-minute judgment, thanked the\ncounsels, Demilade Olaniyan and Tona Akande, for their industry, and dismissed\nthe appeal of the appellant.<br>\n<br>\nJustice Dongban-Mensan, who examined some issues raised by the\nappellant, said the eminent jury were satisfied with the process in which the\nearlier court conducted the case. It thereby complied with the court process\nand affirmed the judgment of the High Court.<br>\n<br>\nOba Adegbola became the Eleruwa in 1998, following the death of his\npredecessor, Oba Bolanle Olaniyan in 1994.<br>\n<br>\nHis removal by an Oyo State High Court on the grounds that his\nselection, nomination and approval by the State Government were irregular, null\nand void, was affirmed by the Federal High Court.<br>\n<br>\nAdegbola had dismissed the appeal court judgment by saying that,\n\u201cThere is no cause for alarm as my counsel are finalizing the process of appeal\nat the Supreme Court.\u201d<br>\n<br>\nHe said the case being a civil matter can still be taken up to Supreme\nCourt, adding that he is ready to enforce to the fullest, his rights under the\nprovision of law.<br>\n<br>\nHis opponent, Rasheed Oyedepo said the victory of the over-a-decade\nlegal battle has confirmed that the judiciary remains the hope of the common\nman.<br>\n<br>\n\u201cToday, the entire Eruwa community is set free as a result of the\njudiciary, which restored our hope.
