Amaechi hits at lawmakers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i3.wp.com\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/rotimi-Amaechi.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>ar Malami.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The House of Representatives had said last week it discovered contentious clauses in the commercial loan agreement between Nigeria and Export-Import Bank of China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Chairman of the House Committee on Treaties and Agreements, Ossai Nicholas, who disclosed this at the plenary, said the clauses conceded Nigeria\u2019s sovereignty to China in the $400 million loan for the Nigeria National Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Infrastructure Backbone Phase II Project, signed in 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In its response to the controversy generated by the matter, the Chinese government on Tuesday denied claims that it is taking over Nigeria\u2019s sovereignty in respect of the clause in the $500 million loan agreement with the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Chinese foreign ministry said the government had no such plan even if there was a default in the repayment of the loans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/chinese-loans-theres-no-contract-without-an-agreement-im-ashamed-of-the-reactions-amaechi\/\">Amaechi<\/a>\u00a0and Malami insisted that Nigeria\u2019s sovereignty was not traded-off in the federal government\u2019s agreement with China as claimed by the lawmakers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They added that what Nigeria provided in the agreement was a commercial guarantee which was an international best practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amaechi said t Nigeria must learn how to pay her debts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: \u201cA sovereign nation is a sovereign nation, nobody can re-colonise us. We must learn to pay our debts and we are paying, and once you are paying, nobody will come and take any of your assets.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/corruption-group-tells-nassembly-not-to-approve-buharis-loan-request-again\/\">National Assembly<\/a>&nbsp;said we have signed out the sovereignty of our country, so why did they approve the loan? Didn\u2019t they see it before approving?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his contributions, the AGF said there is a difference between international diplomatic immunity, independent existence, and commercial immunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: \u201cThere is a difference between international diplomatic immunity which has to do with a nation\u2019s sovereignty, independent existence and commercial immunity which has to do with a commitment to ensure repayment of loans.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ar Malami.
