{"id":28625,"date":"2020-08-25T11:01:28","date_gmt":"2020-08-25T11:01:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=28625"},"modified":"2020-08-25T11:01:35","modified_gmt":"2020-08-25T11:01:35","slug":"21000-sentenced-in-ftc-for-violating-covid-19-protocols","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=28625","title":{"rendered":"21,000 sentenced in FTC for violating COVID-19 protocols"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i3.wp.com\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Nigerians-doing-community-service.jpg\" alt=\"21,000 sentenced in FTC for violating COVID-19 protocols\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The controller-general of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Ja\u2019afaru Ahmed on Monday, revealed that no fewer than 21,000 persons, who violated the COVID-19 lockdown order of the federal government were sentenced to community service in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) alone, as an alternative to custody.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Ahmed, who made the disclosure during the decoration of the newly promoted NCoS senior officers of the Service, the move further boosted the federal government decongestion strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWithin the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/nigerian-govt-extends-phase-two-of-covid-19-lockdown-relaxation-by-four-weeks\/\">lockdown<\/a>, those who violated the restriction order by the federal government were over 21,000 in FCT alone. They had to do some level of community service within the FCT itself\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis has also helped in reducing the number of inmates in custodial centres in the FCT,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The NCoS boss, who reiterated that the issue of over-crowding in custodial centres nationwide were being addressed, said that certain measures were put in place to ensure that overcrowding was reduced to the barest minimum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said, \u201cRecall that amnesty were granted to so many of our inmates during this period.
