{"id":29898,"date":"2020-09-04T13:36:40","date_gmt":"2020-09-04T13:36:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=29898"},"modified":"2020-09-04T13:36:45","modified_gmt":"2020-09-04T13:36:45","slug":"protest-rocks-osogbo-over-increase-in-electricity-tariff-fuel-pump-price","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=29898","title":{"rendered":"Protest rocks Osogbo over increase in electricity tariff, fuel pump price"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i3.wp.com\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Osogbo-protests.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A protest is rocking Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, over the federal government\u2019s decision to increase electricity tariffs and fuel pump price.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ongoing protest is staged by the Coalition for Civil Societies in the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The protesters gathered at Freedom Park, Osogbo, very early on Friday morning and took off from there into the streets of the Osun capital by 8:30am.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The protesters bore placards with different inscriptions regarding their grievances over the hike in the prices of electricity tariffs and petrol price.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to them, the President Muhammadu Buhari-led&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/tag\/APC\">All Progressives Congress (APC)<\/a>&nbsp;administration\u2019s approval of the new electricity tariffs and increment in the pump price of petrol remained the government\u2019s \u201chighest level of insensitivity and wickedness.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There have been public outcries since the government announced the two price hikes early this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the last three months, the Buhari government had increased fuel pump price severally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In June, the price was increased from N121.50 to N123.50 per litre. In the same June, the price also moved from N123.50 to N140.80.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In July it moved from N140.80 to N143.80.
