{"id":29962,"date":"2020-09-04T14:06:58","date_gmt":"2020-09-04T14:06:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=29962"},"modified":"2020-09-04T14:07:06","modified_gmt":"2020-09-04T14:07:06","slug":"cbn-issues-emergency-approval-to-four-firms-to-import-maize","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=29962","title":{"rendered":"CBN issues emergency approval to four firms to import maize"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i3.wp.com\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/1599206247989blob.jpg\" alt=\"CBN issues emergency approval to four firms to import maize\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>a balance between food imports and local production capacities to meet anticipated shortfall, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/cbn-outlaws-special-sre-treatment-for-payment-service-banks\/\">Central Bank of Nigeria<\/a>&nbsp;has granted approval for the underlisted companies to import maize in the quantities stated below,\u201d the NCS said in a memo released Thursday evening and signed by the Deputy Comptroller General, T.M Isa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The firms comprise Crown Flour Mills Limited, Premier Feeds Company Limited, Chi Farms Limited and Wacot Limited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The decision came barely 3 weeks after the apex bank announced a policy shift, barring the importation of maize in a move aimed at self-sufficiency and conservation of the foreign exchange spent annually in bringing the commodity into the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Banks are to conduct the transactions with the companies\u2019 names and the quantity each of them is approved to import, the NCS memo said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wacot Limited has been approved to import 60,000 tons and is to conduct the import transactions of the approved capacity in equal proportion with Citibank and Titan Trust Bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chi Farms Limited will import 60,000 tons through Titan Trust Bank while Crown Flour Mills will import 22,000 tons via Coronation Bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Premier Feeds Company Limited got approval to import 120,000 tons through Zenith Bank PLC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The NCS said only the 4 companies had the liberty to import maize and that the exercise would run from August to October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/tag\/Buhari\/\">President Muhammdu Buhari<\/a>&nbsp;Thursday announced via his Twitter handle, @MBuhari, government\u2019s plan to release 30,000 tons of maize from the national reserves to animal feed manufacturers to address the high cost of poultry production following the ban on maize importation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTo ease the current high cost of poultry production, I have approved the release of 30,000 tons of maize from the national reserves, to animal feed producers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>a balance between food imports and local production capacities to meet anticipated shortfall, the&nbsp;Central Bank of Nigeria&nbsp;has granted approval for the underlisted companies to import maize in the quantities stated below,\u201d the NCS said in a memo released Thursday evening and signed by the Deputy Comptroller General, T.M Isa.
