{"id":33562,"date":"2020-10-02T07:17:23","date_gmt":"2020-10-02T07:17:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=33562"},"modified":"2020-10-02T07:17:29","modified_gmt":"2020-10-02T07:17:29","slug":"nigeria-has-recorded-increase-in-girls-enrollment-and-retention-in-schools-buhari","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=33562","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria has recorded increase in girls\u2019 enrollment and retention in schools \u2014Buhari"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i3.wp.com\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Buhari.-.-..jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>President Muhammadu Buhari said on Thursday Nigeria had been recording an increase in girls\u2019 enrollment and retention in schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He attributed the development to the successful implementation of the Universal Basic Education Programme, Girl Education Project and Safe School Initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The president, according to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/dear-femi-adesina-learn-from-yesterdays-spokesmen\/\">Femi Adesina<\/a>, stated this at a United Nations high-level meeting commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the 4th World Conference on Women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: \u201cOur government is vigorously implementing the Universal Basic Education Programme, which enhances girl-child education at the grassroots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFurthermore, the Girl Education Project has contributed to the marked increase in girls\u2019 enrolment and retention in schools as well as guaranteed full productive capacity for future generations of women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTo ensure the security of school children, especially girls in the North-East of Nigeria, we have ratified the \u2018Safe School Declaration\u2019 and begun the implementation of our Safe School Initiatives across the country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>President Buhari noted with satisfaction that through the Safe School programmes, his administration had ensured improved security through the provision of necessary learning materials for educational institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On gender-based violence, he said awareness on a Sex Offenders Register was ongoing to discourage and better manage cases of violence against women in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The president added: \u201cWe are also expanding existing temporary shelters and building new ones in locations where they do not exist, to cater for victims of abuse and provide them with needed rehabilitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn our quest to address the menace of trafficking of our women and girls, Nigeria is working in close collaboration with relevant partners, to rescue, rehabilitate and re-settle rescued victims of trafficking.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Muhammadu Buhari said on Thursday Nigeria had been recording an increase in girls\u2019 enrollment and retention in schools.
