{"id":33864,"date":"2020-10-05T09:34:02","date_gmt":"2020-10-05T09:34:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=33864"},"modified":"2020-10-05T09:34:08","modified_gmt":"2020-10-05T09:34:08","slug":"saka-proud-of-nigerian-heritage-but-prefers-england-to-super-eagles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=33864","title":{"rendered":"Saka \u2018proud of Nigerian heritage\u2019 but prefers England to Super Eagles"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i3.wp.com\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/skysports-bukayo-saka-arsenal_4923293.jpg\" alt=\"Bukayo Saka\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Arsenal youngster, Bukayo Saka has explained the reason why he chose to play for the Three Lions of England rather than Nigeria\u2019s Super Eagles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 19-year-old was recently handed a call up for the first time to the English senior team, as Nigerian fans lamented his decision to overlook Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Saka, whose parents were raised in Nigeria, admitted that he was proud of his Nigerian heritage but believed that the future of the English team would be great.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI feel like I\u2019m really, really proud of my Nigerian heritage,\u201d Saka told Sky Sports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI always still watch Nigeria\u2019s games where I can and I wish them all the best and support them all the way, but I\u2019ve seen the process of how England are transforming and I think in the future they\u2019re going to do great stuff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI feel like it was right for me to choose England.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The winger was born in England but eligible to play for the Super Eagles through his parents and has now pledged his international future with his country of birth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He explained: \u201cMy dad was born here, my mum was born in Nigeria, but they both grew up in Nigeria and met each other in Nigeria,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey came over and when they came to England it wasn\u2019t easy for them because obviously, it\u2019s a new country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s really cold for them, but they adapted well, and as soon as they had me and my brother they always left everything out the way and put us first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEspecially my football career, my dad always pushed me, he took me to training on days where sometimes it would take two hours to get to training, so I\u2019ll always be so grateful for my parents for the work they\u2019ve done for me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>England manager, Gareth Southgate handed Saka his maiden call-up for this international window\u2019s games against Wales, Belgium and Denmark.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Arsenal youngster, Bukayo Saka has explained the reason why he chose to play for the Three Lions of England rather than Nigeria\u2019s Super Eagles.
