The United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has informed that close to one million people have been displaced in South Sudan due to flooding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to OCHA in a statement issued on Tuesday, an estimated 800,000 people \u201cwho have been affected\u201d are in areas along the White Nile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

South Sudan<\/a> has been experiencing flooding since July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEntire communities have fled to higher ground to escape the rising waters. Women and children are most affected,\u201d OCHA said in the statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The agency said a majority of the affected populations have been reached with food assistance and over 100,000 people have received health support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emergency shelter and non-food items distribution; water, sanitation and hygiene support; and protection services are ongoing but \u201cresponse gaps remain high,\u201d OCHA said<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Humanitarian partners are requesting some $46m (\u00a335m) out of an overall estimate of $82m (\u00a363m), to enable them respond to the needs of people who are in dire need.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
