{"id":34857,"date":"2020-10-09T13:11:51","date_gmt":"2020-10-09T13:11:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=34857"},"modified":"2020-10-09T13:12:00","modified_gmt":"2020-10-09T13:12:00","slug":"us-imposes-fresh-sanctions-on-iran-shuts-out-asian-country-from-global-financial-system","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=34857","title":{"rendered":"US imposes fresh sanctions on Iran, shuts out Asian country from global financial system"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i3.wp.com\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/US-Treasury-Secretary-Steven-Mnuchin.jpg\" alt=\"US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The administration of President Donald Trump of the United States of America has imposed fresh sanctions on Iran that will effectively shut the country out of the global financial system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the US Department of Treasury which announced it is blacklisting 18 major Iranian banks \u2013 16 of which were targeted for \u201coperating in Iran\u2019s financial sector\u201d \u2013 as well one bank controlled by a sanctioned Iranian bank and one the US Treasury says is affiliated with Iran\u2019s military.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the statement, the Treasury said it had, \u201cidentified the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/financial-sector-workers-threaten-to-shut-down-banks-others\/\">financial sector<\/a>\u00a0of Iran\u2019s economy as an additional avenue that funds the Iranian government\u2019s malign activities\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, in a statement, US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said: \u201cToday\u2019s actions will continue to allow for humanitarian transactions to support the Iranian people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While reacting to the sanctions, Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif pushed back on Mnuchin\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/economy\/2020\/10\/8\/us-sanctions-irans-entire-financial-sector\">claims<\/a>&nbsp;that humanitarian transactions would not be impacted by the latest round of sanctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAmid Covid19 pandemic, U.S. regime wants to blow up our remaining channels to pay for food &amp; medicine.
