{"id":35215,"date":"2020-10-14T10:29:47","date_gmt":"2020-10-14T10:29:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=35215"},"modified":"2020-10-14T10:29:54","modified_gmt":"2020-10-14T10:29:54","slug":"nigerian-govt-sets-up-initiative-to-curb-maternal-mortality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=35215","title":{"rendered":"Nigerian govt sets up initiative to curb maternal mortality"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i3.wp.com\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/osagie-ehanire.-.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In its bid to reduce maternal mortality to the barest minimum, the federal government has set up the Nigeria Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent and Elderly Health Plus Nutrition (RMNCAEH+N) initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Minister of Health,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/health-minister-ehanire-worries-over-low-covid-19-testing\/\">Osagie Ehanire<\/a>, who spoke at the launch, the initiative targets women, children and the aged and seeks to improve their well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Ehanire lamented that the country\u2019s health indices are poor and totally unacceptable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur health indices are unacceptably poor and there are emerging issues around gender, public health emergencies and, most recently, the COVID-19 pandemic,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMaternal mortality ratio of 512 per 1000 live births, Under-five mortality rate of 132 per 1000 live births and neonatal mortality rate of 39 per 1000 live births,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reacting to the initiative, the Coordinator of Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN), Aminu Magashi also promised to provide technical support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe happily welcome the emergence of the Nigeria RMNCAEH+N Partnership Coordination Platform.
