{"id":35361,"date":"2020-10-14T14:50:13","date_gmt":"2020-10-14T14:50:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=35361"},"modified":"2020-10-14T14:50:19","modified_gmt":"2020-10-14T14:50:19","slug":"efcc-prays-court-to-dismiss-momphas-no-case-submission-in-alleged-n32-9bn-fraud-trial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=35361","title":{"rendered":"EFCC prays court to dismiss Mompha\u2019s no-case submission in alleged N32.9bn fraud trial"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i3.wp.com\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Mompha1.jpg\" alt=\"Suspected internet fraudster, Mompha, demands N5m from EFCC\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has prayed the court to dismiss the no-case submission filed by a suspected internet fraudster, Ismail Mustapha, alias Mompha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/mompha-demands-n5m-compensation-from-efcc-over-fresh-arrest\/\">Mompha<\/a>&nbsp;is standing trial before Justice Mohammed Liman of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, over an alleged N32.9 billion fraud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was re-arraigned on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 alongside his company, Ismalob Ventures, on an amended 22-count charge of fraud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the resumed sitting Wednesday, October 14, 2020, Mompha, through his lawyer, Gbenga Oyewole (SAN), filed a no-case submission, after the prosecution had closed its case at the last sitting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oyewole, in urging the court to uphold his client\u2019s no-case submission, said the prosecution had failed to link his client to any offence on all the counts of the charge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the prosecution counsel, S. I. Sulaiman, in his response, urged the court to dismiss Mompha\u2019s no-case submission application, which was adopted before the court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In urging the court to dismiss Mompha\u2019s application, Sulaiman said the prosecution had been able to link the defendant to the alleged offences based on the evidence adduced and exhibits tendered through the 10 prosecution witnesses, who had testified in the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He, therefore, urged the court to dismiss the application and order the defendant to open his defence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After listening to both parties, Justice Liman adjourned the matter to November 18, 2020 for ruling on the defendant\u2019s no-case submission.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has prayed the court to dismiss the no-case submission filed by a suspected internet fraudster, Ismail Mustapha, alias Mompha.
