The government of the United States of America has sanctioned no fewer than five Iranian groups for attempting to interfere in the upcoming presidential election between President Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Joe Biden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the US Department<\/a> of the Treasury which accused Iran\u2019s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the IRGC\u2019s Quds Force, and the Bayan Rasaneh Gostar Institute \u201cfor having directly or indirectly engaged in, sponsored, concealed, or otherwise been complicit in foreign interference\u201d in the November 3 election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It also designated the Iranian Islamic Radio and Television Union and International Union of Virtual Media \u201cfor being owned or controlled by\u201d the IRGC\u2019s Quds Force, the department said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Iranian regime uses false narratives and other misleading content to attempt to influence U.S. elections,\u201d Steven Mnuchin, the US treasury secretary, said<\/a> in the statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis administration is committed to ensuring the integrity of the US election system and will continue to counter efforts from any foreign actor that threatens our electoral processes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Separately on Thursday, the US Treasury Department also sanctioned Iran\u2019s ambassador to Iraq, Iraj Masjedi, accusing him of \u201cacting for or on behalf\u201d of the IRGC\u2019s Quds Force.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
