Nigeria\u2019s Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Magashi (rtd.), on Tuesday said the rescue of an American held hostage in Nigeria by US Navy Seal did not violate the country\u2019s sovereignty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the minister, the Nigerian government granted the US necessary permission to carry out the military operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It would be\u00a0recalled that<\/a>\u00a0the United States Special Military Force successfully rescued an American citizen kidnapped by\u00a0bandits<\/a>\u00a0in the northern part of Nigeria over the weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking to reporters shortly after he defended his Ministry\u2019s budget at the Senate on Tuesday, the minister said Nigeria gave permission to the United States \u201cas a friendly country\u201d almost as soon as it was contacted by the government, ruling out theories that the United States might have violated Nigeria\u2019s sovereignty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Magashi further said that the country was doing the best it could with what was available to the military to deploy adequate technology in its operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
