{"id":38513,"date":"2021-01-04T11:50:22","date_gmt":"2021-01-04T11:50:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=38513"},"modified":"2021-01-04T11:50:28","modified_gmt":"2021-01-04T11:50:28","slug":"police-arraigns-sowore-over-new-year-eves-protest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=38513","title":{"rendered":"Police arraigns Sowore over New Year Eve\u2019s protest"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i3.wp.com\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Sowore-3.jpg\" alt=\"Sowore\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Omoyele Sowore, a human rights activist and his colleagues have been arraigned before a Wuse Magistrate Court in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, for leading a protest on New Year\u2019s Eve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The activist was arrested alongside his colleagues; Juwon Sanyaolu, Damilare Adenola and two others simply identified as Peter and Kimrere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They were on Monday morning arraigned in the court for the New Year Eve\u2019s protest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The arraignment came amid calls by Amnesty International and other rights groups on Nigerian government to immediately and unconditionally release\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/sowore-to-sue-nigeria-police-for-torture-falana\/\">Sowore<\/a>\u00a0and his colleagues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recall that the Department of State Service (DSS) had also in August 2019 arrested Sowore for planning a nationwide protest tagged #RevolutionNow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was then kept in custody for 141 before he was finally granted bail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Part of the bail condition restricted him from travelling out of Abuja.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Omoyele Sowore, a human rights activist and his colleagues have been arraigned before a Wuse Magistrate Court in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, for leading a protest on New Year\u2019s Eve.
