China has taken delight in recent happenings in the United States of America after it ridiculed the storming of US Capitol by angry supporters of Donald Trump who broke down barricades and swarmed the premises, as special sessions were ongoing, thus forcing an emergency recess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

China\u2019s Communist Youth League on Thursday described the unrest as a \u201cbeautiful sight\u201d on social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, Chinese state media tabloid Global Times also tweeted side-by-side photo comparisons of Hong Kong protesters occupying the city\u2019s Legislative Council Complex in July 2019 with Wednesday\u2019s Washington riots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the same vein, the hashtag \u201cTrump supporters storm US Capitol\u201d trended on China\u2019s social media platform, Weibo with up to 230 million views, as users compared the global support for Hong Kong\u2019s protesters<\/a> with the outpouring of condemnation for the pro-Trump mob.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAt present, all European countries\u2019 leaders have shown double standards and condemned it (Washington rioting),\u201d read one Weibo comment which gained over 5,000 likes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know what kind of double-standard reports will be carried by Hong Kong or Taiwan media this time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat happened in the Hong Kong Legislative Council last year is being repeated in the US Capitol,\u201d wrote another user in a comment with over 4,500 likes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, several countries including Australia, the UK, and Canada have condemned the action by Trump supporters while also calling for calm and a peaceful transition of power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres was \u201csaddened\u201d by the breach of the US Capitol building, according to his spokesman Stephane Dujarric.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn such circumstances, it is important that political leaders impress on their followers the need to refrain from violence, as well as to respect democratic processes and the rule of law,\u201d Dujarric said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Zealand\u2019s Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta said the events in Washington were a source of regret and that New Zealand looked forward to the peaceful transition of power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
