{"id":40113,"date":"2021-02-10T11:36:08","date_gmt":"2021-02-10T11:36:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=40113"},"modified":"2021-02-10T11:36:47","modified_gmt":"2021-02-10T11:36:47","slug":"presidency-advocates-prosecution-trial-for-arm-bearing-herdsmen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=40113","title":{"rendered":"Presidency advocates prosecution, trial for arm-bearing herdsmen"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i3.wp.com\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Femi-Adesina.jpg\" alt=\"Buhari\u2019s \u2018certificate saga is a dead issue\u2019, only \u2018idle people\u2019 are complaining\u2014 Adesina\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Any herdsmen caught with illegal arms should be arrested and prosecuted, the Presidency said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This stance was clarified by the president\u2019s spokesman, Femi Adesina during an appearance on Channels Television\u2019s Politics Today, in response to recent comments made by Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ripples Nigeria had reported that Ortom opined that the silence of President Muhammadu Buhari emboldened the herdsmen towards unleashing mayhem across Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/efcc-arraigns-herbalist-for-impersonating-femi-adesina-nnpc-boss-to-defraud-korean-of-n30m\/\">Adesina<\/a>&nbsp;exonerated the President saying, \u201cIf the Governor would say he hasn\u2019t heard the President speak on that matter, that\u2019s what he should make clear; it\u2019s not that the President hasn\u2019t spoken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBecause the number of times the President has spoken on that issue . . . and his position has always been the same: anybody, whoever he is, that carries arms unlawfully should be arrested and prosecuted. The President has said it countless times.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, when asked how many herdsmen have been arrested in recent times, Adesina said \u201cI don\u2019t have that figure at my fingertips . . . but I know that a lot of people are awaiting trial.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Due to the escalating clashes between farmers and herdsmen, the Kano State Governor, Umar Ganduje, recently suggested that ranching was the solution to the phenomenon of herdsmen moving across the country with cattle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reacting to the Governor\u2019s suggestion, Adesina said all suggestions should be discussed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also pointed to the Federal Government\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/miyetti-allah-urges-yobe-govt-to-implement-fgs-ruga\/\">Ruga program<\/a>, which was rejected by some states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNigeria is a peculiar country where the federal government has no land,\u201d he said.
