{"id":40159,"date":"2021-02-11T15:30:02","date_gmt":"2021-02-11T15:30:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=40159"},"modified":"2021-02-11T15:30:13","modified_gmt":"2021-02-11T15:30:13","slug":"south-africa-may-swap-or-sell-less-effective-astrazeneca-covid-19-vaccine-minister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=40159","title":{"rendered":"South Africa may swap or sell \u2018less effective\u2019 AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine \u2014 Minister"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i3.wp.com\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/South-Africa-Health-Minister-Zweli-Mkhize.jpeg\" alt=\"Second wave of Covid-19 in South Africa may overwhelm health care system \u2013Minister\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The government of South Africa has hinted that the \u2018less effective\u2019 Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine against the dreaded COVID-19 virus may be swapped or sold to countries in need of the jab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This was revealed in a statement issued on Wednesday by South Africa\u2019s Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize who said that the country has one and half million doses of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/south-africa-suspends-astrazeneca-vaccine-rollout\/\">AstraZeneca vaccine<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere are already some countries that are asking that we must sell it to them,\u201d Mkhize told a news conference yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur scientists will continue with further deliberations on the AstraZeneca vaccine used in South Africa and depending on their advice, the vaccine will be swapped before the expiry date.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This came days after South Africa ordered the suspension of the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine developed in conjunction with the University of Oxford, in its ongoing immunisation programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-africa-56009170\">Mkhize who said<\/a>&nbsp;that the suspension of the use of the Oxford\/AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine will remain until a committee of scientists advises on the best way to proceed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The government of South Africa has hinted that the \u2018less effective\u2019 Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine against the dreaded COVID-19 virus may be swapped or sold to countries in need of the jab.
