{"id":41955,"date":"2021-03-31T10:49:33","date_gmt":"2021-03-31T10:49:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=41955"},"modified":"2021-03-31T10:49:33","modified_gmt":"2021-03-31T10:49:33","slug":"ministry-collates-12m-out-of-school-kids-for-alternate-school-programme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=41955","title":{"rendered":"Ministry collates 12m out-of-school kids for alternate school programme"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i3.wp.com\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Sadiya-Farouq3.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development has stated that the National Steering Committee on Alternate School Programme (ASP) has begun the collation of data of all out-of-school children across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/i-have-forgiven-those-who-accused-me-of-hoarding-covid-19-palliatives-farouq\/\">Farouq<\/a>&nbsp;said this in a statement by her media aide, Mrs Nneka Anibeze on Tuesday, March 30, in Abuja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She quoted the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), report as noting that about 12 million children were currently out of school in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis committee will work with the statistics made available by the NBS to engage these out- of-school children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe ASP possesses the potential for every child to gain access to quality education, irrespective of social, cultural or economic standing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt will also provide a means of improving household incomes for their respective families, through the Federal Government\u2019s Social Investment Programme<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt also seeks to equip children with the requisite skills and wherewithal to engage with and contribute meaningfully to the Nigerian economy,\u201d Farouq said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She explained that the committee had worked closely with the Ministry of Education and other ministries to refine the concept of the ASP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn collaboration with the Ministry of Education, we have spent the last few weeks in engagement with various stakeholders, in a bid to refine and strengthen the ASP concept.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe significance of each member of the committee in providing the necessary leadership for the success of the programme cannot be overemphasised,\u201d Farouq said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development has stated that the National Steering Committee on Alternate School Programme (ASP) has begun the collation of data of all out-of-school children across the country.
