{"id":44405,"date":"2021-06-03T14:44:30","date_gmt":"2021-06-03T14:44:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=44405"},"modified":"2021-06-03T14:44:41","modified_gmt":"2021-06-03T14:44:41","slug":"nigeria-facing-security-challenges-does-not-make-it-a-failed-state-lai-mohammed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=44405","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria facing security challenges, does not make it a failed state \u2014Lai Mohammed"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i3.wp.com\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Lai-Mohammed..jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The fallout from the statement accredited to President Muhammadu Buhari regarding a Civil War in the South-East rages as the Federal Government slammed critics who tagged Nigeria \u2018a failed state\u2019 due to its present insecurity situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/socialmediatrends-buharis-civil-war-tweet-nigerians-trend-iamigbotoo-in-solidarity-drag-minister-lai\/\">Minister of Information and Culture<\/a>, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This was in response to a recent declaration by the Council on Foreign Affairs (CFA) in the U.S. that \u201cNigeria is at a point of no return with all the signs of a failed nation\u2019\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The minister stated that \u201cJust because Nigeria is facing security challenges, which we have acknowledged and which we are tackling, does not automatically make the country a failed state\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Mohammed, the declaration by the Council did not represent an official U.S. policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis declaration is merely the opinions of two persons, former U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria and a Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations John Campbell, and the President Emeritus of World Peace Foundation, Robert Rotberg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDeclaring any nation a failed state is not done at the whims and caprices of one or two persons, no matter their status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cJust because Nigeria is facing security challenges, which we have acknowledged and which we are tackling, does not automatically make the country a failed state,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYes, the Council on Foreign Relations is a prominent U.S. public policy Think Tank, but its opinion is not that of the U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLike former U.S. Senator Daniel Moynihan said, \u201dYou are entitled to your opinion but not your facts\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The minister noted that it was not the first time it was predicted that Nigeria would fail or break up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe were even once told that Nigeria would break up in 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut their doomsday predictions have all failed and will fail again,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The fallout from the statement accredited to President Muhammadu Buhari regarding a Civil War in the South-East rages as the Federal Government slammed critics who tagged Nigeria \u2018a failed state\u2019 due to its present insecurity situation.
