{"id":44748,"date":"2021-06-21T14:25:12","date_gmt":"2021-06-21T14:25:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=44748"},"modified":"2021-06-21T14:25:19","modified_gmt":"2021-06-21T14:25:19","slug":"how-nigeria-lost-2-8bn-oil-revenue-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=44748","title":{"rendered":"How Nigeria lost $2.8bn oil revenue \u2014Report"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i3.wp.com\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Crude-Oil-search.jpg\" alt=\"Nigeria spends N21bn searching for oil, others in January\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Nigerian Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (NEITI) has revealed how Nigeria lost an estimated $2.8 billion in oil revenues in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This was stated in its most recent oil and gas industry audit report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The losses, according to the group, were caused by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/for-every-n100-oil-revenue-nigeria-spent-n70-paying-debts-in-january\/\">oil theft&nbsp;<\/a>and pipeline sabotage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When calculated, the losses amounted to N851 billion at an exchange rate of N306.42\/1$<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the report, NEITI stated that the estimated figure was calculated using an average price of $65.61 per barrel<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It did, however, note a significant reduction of 21% from the previous year, when 53.28 million barrels were lost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Part of the report reads, \u201cLosses such as these are recorded by companies whose crude volumes are carried through pipelines easily compromised by saboteurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSome oil terminals recorded no production. These included Aja operated by Bayelsa Oil, whose license was revoked by the government. Others were Asaramatoru and Oyo managed by Prime and Allied\/CAMAC who were reportedly inactive for the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNigeria earned a total of N10.49trillion from crude oil and gas sales. This was a marginal 4.88% increase from 2018 revenues of N9.99trillion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe total crude oil production recorded was 735.24 million barrels, a 4.87per cent increase from 701.10 million barrels reported in 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA total of N2.145tn ($7.011bn) was the domestic sales proceeds in 2019 from 107.24 million barrels of crude oil.
