Gunmen have killed a Major General of the Nigerian Army, Hassan Ahmed, and abducted his wife in an attack in Abuja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ahmed, who was recently appointed a Director at the Army Headquarters, was shot dead in Abaji area of the Federal Capital Territory on Thursday night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to a family member, the couple were returning to their hometown in Okene, Kogi State, when they ran into an ambush by the assailants who opened fire on them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Family sources said the wife was abducted after the attack, though news around her are still sketchy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement by Army<\/a> spokesman, Brig. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, who confirmed the incident, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Farouk Yahaya, has already sent a delegation to condole with the victim\u2019s family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nwachukwu stated that members of the Nigerian Army Officers\u2019 Wives Association (NAOWA) led by the Deputy National President, Stella Omozoje, have also visited the family to condole with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201dWith a heavy heart, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Farouk Yahaya, Officers and Soldiers of the Nigerian Army regret to announce the passing on of Maj.-Gen. Hassan Ahmed, a former Provost Marshall of the Nigerian Army.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201dThe sad incident occurred when the senior officer\u2019s vehicle was attacked by gunmen while transiting along Lokoja-Abuja road yesterday, 15 July, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201dA delegation from the Army Headquarters led by the Chief of Policy and Plans (Army) Maj.-Gen. Anthony Omozoje, has visited the widow and other members of the bereaved family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201dMembers of the Nigerian Army Officers\u2019 Wives Association (NAOWA) led by the Deputy National President, Mrs Stella Omozoje have also visited the family to condole with them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
