{"id":46684,"date":"2021-08-14T11:18:39","date_gmt":"2021-08-14T11:18:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=46684"},"modified":"2021-08-14T11:18:49","modified_gmt":"2021-08-14T11:18:49","slug":"luth-doctors-resume-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=46684","title":{"rendered":"LUTH: Doctors resume work."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"210\" height=\"240\" src=\"http:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/nard-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-46689\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Healthcare services Friday resumed at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) following the suspension of a 10-day indefinite strike called by doctors under the auspices of the Association of Resident Doctors, (LUTH-ARD) over excessive tax deduction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, the doctors have asked the Joint Tax Board to promote uniformity in both the application of tax laws and in the incidence of tax on individuals throughout the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Chairman, LUTH-ARD, Dr. Adetunji Adenekan who briefed the press about these development in Lagos yesterday, however said the strike was suspended in the interest of patients and because of the intervention of their parent bodies, , the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) and the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"600\" height=\"350\" src=\"http:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/LUTH.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-46690\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>He posited that the body of doctors across the nation has resolved that call duty and hazard allowances should not be taxed as \u201ccall duty allowances are not supernnuable since they are monies actually worked for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He further explained that the association has suspended all industrial action henceforth and have asked all its members to resume work starting from exactly 1pm on Friday, December 14,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Similarly, he stated that the LUTH-ARD inconjuction with its parent bodies, the NARD and the NMA would simultaneously continue to seek further redress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Asked what the association would do if there is no breakthrough, he said: \u201cWe will continue negotiations, legally or otherwise,\u201d adding, \u201cuntil we get to breaking point, negotiations will continue.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Expressing the readiness of its members to pay taxes, the chairman of LUTH-ARD said,\u201dWe frown strongly at the process of commencement and implementation of the new tax law in LUTH despite the hospital\u2019s management knowledge of its lack of uniform application throughout the country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It will be recalled that doctors embarked on an indefinite strike, which crippled health care services in LUTH.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Healthcare services Friday resumed at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) following the suspension of a 10-day indefinite strike called by doctors under the auspices of the Association of Resident Doctors, (LUTH-ARD) over excessive tax deduction.
