The Jigawa State Police Command has confirmed that 23 people died yesterday in a motor accident in Gwamfai community in Jahun Local Government Area of the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Jigawa police spokesperson, Mr. Audu Jinjiri, in a statement, said the accident occurred after a tyre burst.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the police, a Toyota bus with registration number YD183 HJA was conveying the passengers from Jahun LGA to Shuwarin Market in Kiyawa LGA before the incident happened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The police identified the driver as Ayuba, 36, of Afasha village Jahun LGA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201dThe driver lost control and hit a house, as a result, the vehicle caught fire and all the passengers and the driver got burnt beyond recognition,\u201d the police said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jinjiri added that the 18 males and five females were given mass burial at the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe doctor certified the bodies dead and the case is under investigation,\u201d the police said in the statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the state governor, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru, reportedly \u2018witnessed\u2019 the accident on his way to Gumel LGA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The governor reportedly instructed the Gumel LGA chairman to identify the relatives of the decease and assist them, according to the new media aide to the governor, Mr. Auwal Sankara.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
