EIGHTEEN\nmilitary officers at the weekend graduated from the Naval Warfare Course 3 of\nthe Nigeria Navy War College, Calabar, the Cross River State capital.
\n
\nThe\ngraduands were the third set since the institution\u2019s inception in 2017.
\n
\nBut they\nwere the first batch of graduands from Calabar, where the permanent site of the\ninstitution is now located.
\n
\nAt the\ngraduation ceremony held at the Eastern Naval Command headquarters in Calabar,\nthe Minister of Defense, Maj.-Gen. Bashir Magashi (retd.), represented by the\nChief of Defense Staff, Gen. Abayomi Olonisakin, said: \u201cThe nation expects you\nto be focused on your assigned duties and to justify the huge resources that\nwere committed to your training.
\n
\n\u201cThis can\nbe achieved by employing the knowledge and competencies gained from the college\nin your future assignments. I am optimistic that your performance in the field\nwould attest to the growing reputation of the college as a center of excellence\nfor maritime security studies in the sub-region.\u201d
\n
\nThe\nminister hailed Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas, the\ncollege\u2019s board, the commandant, members of Faculty and the workers for the\ngiant strides the college had recorded.
\n

\n\u201cThere is\nno gainsaying that the Defense Headquarters (DHQ) will continue to support the\nnaval headquarters in meeting the training needs of the college.
\n
\n\u201cIn\nparticular, Mr. President (Muhammadu Buhari) recently assented to the\nSuppression of Piracy and Other Maritime Offences Bill of 2019. It is expected\nthat this will further support the efficiency of naval operations designed to\ncontain crude oil theft and other illegalities in our maritime domain.\u201d

\nCross\nRiver State Deputy Governor Ivara Esu, who represented Governor Ben Ayade,\nthanked the Federal Government for siting the college in the capital town and\nrelocating it last January.
\n
\nThe\ngovernor assured that his administration would continue to support the college\nto achieve its aims and objectives.
\n
\nThe\ncollege\u2019s Commandant Rear Admiral A. O. Ayobanjo said the participants passed\nthrough written and oral assessments and had been imbued with the capacity to\nplan and execute warfare in defense of the nation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
