{"id":680,"date":"2019-11-05T01:15:33","date_gmt":"2019-11-05T01:15:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=680"},"modified":"2019-11-06T01:17:44","modified_gmt":"2019-11-06T01:17:44","slug":"army-stops-boko-haram-attack-in-lagos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=680","title":{"rendered":"ARMY STOPS BOKO HARAM ATTACK IN LAGOS"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"496\" height=\"342\" src=\"http:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/ARMYbokoharam.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-596\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>EIGHT Boko Haram suspects arrested in connection with plans\nto attack facilities in Lagos are being held by the military, the army said at\nthe weekend.<br>\n<br>\nThe Nation gathered on Sunday that the insurgents made attempts about\ntwo weeks ago to attack one of the universities in the state, but operatives of\nthe 81 Division beat them to their game.<br>\n<br>\nFour persons directly involved in the botched plan were arrested and\nimmediately whisked to the Army Headquarters in Abuja for further\ninvestigation.<br>\n<br>\nIt was gathered that four other suspected members of the terrorist\ngroup were arrested within that period. They allegedly confessed their\nmembership of Boko Haram.<br>\n<br>\nGeneral Officer Commanding (GOC), 81 Division Maj.-Gen. Olu Irefin, said\nthe eight suspects had been transferred to Abuja.<br>\n<br>\nHe assured residents of Lagos and Ogun States that there was no cause\nfor alarm, adding that there was solid security architecture in place.<br>\n<br>\nThe GOC said Exercise Crocodile Smile IV had kicked off.<br>\n<br>\nHe said: \u201cWe have started on the background. We have gone for\nsimulation with all the security agencies involved in the Exercise.<br>\n<br>\n\u201cThe exercise proper would kill off on November 19. It was supposed to\nstart on November 11 but was shifted because of the NA\u2019s Small Arms Firing\nExercise holding between November 11 and 15 at Ibadan.<br>\n<br>\n\u201cThere is no cause for alarm within 81 Division\u2019s area of\nresponsibility. We have been on top of our game on this Boko Haram issue. We\nare not sleeping and the people are assured of their safety throughout this\nperiod and beyond.<br>\n<br>\n\u201cCitizens can go about their lawful duties without panic because\nsecurity agencies are doing a lot to protect them.\u201d<br>\n<br>\nBut the Lagos State Police Commissioner, Zubairu Muazu, said there was\nno cause for alarm.<br>\n<br>\nHe assured residents that adequate security was in place.<br>\n<br>\n\u201cLagos is safe. There is no Bono Haram scare and the people should not\nbe afraid. We are not sleeping,\u201d he said.<br>\n<br>\nThe Nation reports that plans by the insurgents to attack Lagos,\nincluding last year\u2019s alleged attempt on the Third Mainland Bridge and some\nshopping centers, have consistently been prevented by the military. Many\nleaders of the sect who fled to Lagos were arrested.<br>\n<br>\nOver 60 suspected Boko Haram suspects have been arrested in different\nparts of Lagos since 2015. Arrests were made at Kara Market, Agege, Alaba Rago,\nLagos Island and Isolo.<br>\n<br>\nIn September 2017, three suspected Boko Haram members, hiding among\nthe Hausa community in Isolo, Lagos Mainland, were fished out by leaders and handed\nover to security agencies.<br>\n<br>\nThe Civilian Joint Taskforce (CJTF) on March 29, last year, arrested a\nsuspect said to be the fifth in command of the sect in Lagos State.<br>\n<br>\nHe was moved to the North for onward handover to the Department of\nState Services (DSS) who had declared him wanted before army operatives\nintercepted them in Bauchi State.<br>\n<br>\nOn December 21 last year, a Boko Haram leader, identified as Umar,\nalleged to be behind the Kuje and Nyanya bombings, was arrested by the\nInspector-General of Police (IG) Intelligence Response Team (IRT) in Lagos at a\nrelative\u2019s place where he was hiding.<br>\n<br>\nThe Department of State Services (DSS) on January 10, 2017 said it\narrested four suspected members of Boko Haram-Fanayi Hassan, Butame Hassan,\nKologoni Bukar and Amina Abubakar \u2013 at Oko-Oba, Agege, who fled the northeast\nto evade arrest.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>EIGHT Boko Haram suspects arrested in connection with plans to attack facilities in Lagos are being held by the military, the army said at the weekend.
