{"id":8722,"date":"2020-04-07T09:54:42","date_gmt":"2020-04-07T09:54:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=8722"},"modified":"2020-04-07T09:54:48","modified_gmt":"2020-04-07T09:54:48","slug":"kaduna-records-another-case-threatens-reintroduction-of-24-hour-curfew","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/watchdogplusmedia.com\/?p=8722","title":{"rendered":"Kaduna records another case, threatens reintroduction of 24-hour curfew"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ci3.googleusercontent.com\/proxy\/CiWynoUsosM00ZAI7JOjkeYNZ0pNN5bvqIWecth6gY0TteMG7fbqlPzhgOb-xZpiTjqjUw4qH8XR9ov15GXbQgr5glyGcHCyT3Wq1PbDBNo9iPRBWQ=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/netstorage-legit.akamaized.net\/images\/1c3814dcbdaf326f.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Dr Hadiza Balarabe, on Monday, warned that the government would revert to the 24-hour curfew should residents failed to obey the stay-at-home order imposed on the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The deputy governor also said security operatives had been ordered to deal decisively with curfew violators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><ins><\/ins><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The warning came just as the Commissioner for Health in the state, Dr Amina Mohammed-Baloni, disclosed on Monday that the state had recorded another case of COVID-19, bringing the number of positive cases to five.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The commissioner said so far the state had sent 89 samples to Abuja for testing, noting that five samples were positive while 77 samples were negative and eight samples pending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c119 contacts have been listed and further contact tracing is ongoing,\u201d she said in a statement on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The deputy governor warned that the state would be completely shut down if residents continued to flout the curfew order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A statement issued by Governor Nasir El-Rufai\u2019s Special Adviser on Media and Communication, Mr Muyiwa Adekeye, said the deputy governor was angry because some residents took the coronavirus pandemic for granted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This, she said, explained why the residents were defying the curfew order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The statement added that the state Task Force on Covid-19 met with the representatives of traders and resolved that dealers in foodstuffs and essential commodities were permitted to bring in their products five times in a week, Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Balarabe warned that only food and essential commodities would be sold on Tuesdays and Wednesdays when markets&nbsp; open, adding that&nbsp; \u201csellers of other merchandise are not included in the exemption.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><ins><\/ins><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;She also asked residents to shop only in markets within their neighbourhoods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAt this time, we will not just stand by and let a few elements add to the hardship already being faced because of selfishness,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The deputy governor called on well-meaning individuals to contribute either in cash or in kind, towards bringing succour to the needy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Resource Mobilisation Committee will communicate to our major contractors, investors and corporate bodies, as well as donor agencies and development partners, to solicit for their support in that vein.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;\u201cIn addition, modalities are being worked out to ensure that political appointees also contribute to this noble cause,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She also disclosed that a company had offered to produce masks in Kaduna State to make it cheaper for all in a bid to contain the disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSimilarly, the United Kingdom\u2019s Department For International Development has approached the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria to supply raw materials for the production of hand sanitisers locally,\u201d the deputy governor said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier, the health commissioner had said the ministry had reactivated and strengthened the Infectious Disease Control Centre by posting trained health workers to the facility<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said, \u201cIn addition, the ministry has also concluded arrangements for the take-off of an alternative isolation centre which has 69 rooms, where mild to moderate cases will be managed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The facility is expected to be ready to receive patients this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn the same vein, Kaduna State Government has also concluded arrangements for the establishment of a testing laboratory in collaboration with Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria, for quick diagnosis,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She also pointed out \u201ccooperating with disease control efforts will reduce the risk of contracting or spreading COVID-19 and, therefore, reduce the possibility of a community transmission.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She added, \u201cDifferent sub committees have been put in place to coordinate response to the disease, which include the surveillance, laboratory, coordination and risk communication teams.
