As Covid-19 cases rise to 782, FG places Kano, Osun, Oyo, Edo under watch as Ganduje cries for assistance

– Nigeria’s coronavirus cases rose to 782 after NCDC reported 117 new cases late last night with Kano coming third on the list with 14 new cases
– Meanwhile, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Kano governor, has begged the federal government for assistance as his state takes the path of FCT and Lagos.
The federal government says it is placing Kano, Oyo, Osun and Edo under its watch as the cases of coronavirus in the states set a string of concerns with a sudden rise in the last few days. Speaking during the briefing of the presidential task force on Covid-19 in Abuja on Tuesday, April 21, Sani Aliyu said the growing number of cases in the states is becoming worrisome. It was reported that Kano records 23 new cases of COVID-19 in one day, now has 59 infected patients. According to Aliyu, more Covid-19 cases may be recorded in the coming days as the federal government has increased the number of tests per day. “Because we’re increasing the number of tests, as we ramp up, there’s the possibility that we’ll continue to have more and more cases coming here. FG says Kano, Edo and Osun have been placed under its watch amid the growing number of Covid-19 in the states. “We do note the concern about increased reporting of cases, we’re closely monitoring Kano, Osun, Oyo and Edo. “We note the particular concern with Kano and we’ve engaged closely with the state government,” he said. Also speaking at the event, Boss Mustapha, secretary to the government of the federation and chairman of the task force, enjoined Nigerians to continue to use face masks. He said the use of face masks will serve as an additional measure to prevent community-linked transmission. He also urged the general public to maintain social distancing and respiratory hygiene. Meanwhile, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Kano governor, has asked the federal government to support the state with the provision of funds and facilities to curb the menace of Covid-19 pandemic.
Nigeria records highest coronavirus cases with 86 new infections as Lagos has 70 of it Kano currently has 59 Covid-19 cases behind the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Lagos and there are indications that more cases will be recorded in the state as large scale testing becomes a necessity. “We need additional testing centers; we need vehicles and protection kits; we need coordination; we need rapid responses, and we need palliative,” the governor pleaded. Earlier, it had been reported that the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported 117 cases of the novel coronavirus in Nigeria on Tuesday, April 21. The new cases are the highest to be reported in the country by the government agency. According to the report, Lagos state has the highest infections with 59 cases while the federal capital territory, Abuja followed with 29 cases. Kano came third with 14 infections and followed by Borno with six news cases. Katsina also records four new infections as well as Ogun with three new cases.
