COVID-19: Osun govt ensures total compliance with lockdown directive, closes all borders

The Osun State government led by Governor Gboyega Oyetola has moved to ensure total compliance with its lockdown directive by mounting barricades at all boundaries and major roads of the state.
This was revealed in a statement on Tuesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Ismail Omipidan, and the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mrs. Funke Egbemode.
The statement noted that the step is imperative to enforce compliance to 14 days total lockdown directive issued by the state government to curtail the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
Egbemode said: “The barricades were erected to throttle back unauthorised movements across the state. The government was intensifying efforts to flatten the curve of COVID-19 in the state and avoid a resurgence of the disease.
“The government is determined to protect Osun and its citizens. Hence, this move by the government is to keep defiant people from hurting themselves and endangering others.
“The barricades will only be opened to essential duty vehicles, conveying materials needed for the fight against COVID-19. Non-essential travels and movements remain banned in the state till further notice,” she added.
This development comes after the Ondo State government has ordered the release of no fewer than 26 inmates of the Olokuta Correctional Centre Akure, the state capital.
This was reveald in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Segun Ajiboye, who said that the inmates were granted pardon to stem the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic especially at the correctional center in the state.
