COVID-19: Buhari appoints Ali Baba, Segun Arinze, Dare Art Alade, others into committee

– Some celebrities in the entertainment industry have been appointed into a committee by President Buhari due to the coronavirus pandemic

– Comedian Ali Baba was appointed as the chairman of the committee of creative industry stakeholders to advise the government on how best to reduce the effect of the pandemic

– Nigeria’s minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, announced this in Abuja on Wednesday, May 6, 2020.

The coronavirus pandemic has already caused great changes in many parts of the world as governments in different countries try to come up with different ways to handle its effects and to also flatten the curve.It had been gathered that the Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari, has approved the appointment of some Nigerian celebrities to a committee of creative industry stakeholders during this pandemic. Ace comedian, Ali Baba, has been appointed as the chairman of the committee while Anita Eboigbe of the News Agency of Nigeria has been appointed as the secretary. Other celebs in the committee include Segun Arinze, Bolanle Austen Peters, Dare Art Alade, Efe Omoregbe, Charles Novia, Baba Agba, Ali Jita, to name a few. These celebs were said to be appointed to advise the federal government on how to reduce the effect of the pandemic on the industry. Other industries are also to be represented in the committee as representatives of the photography, fashion, hospitality, publishing and travel sectors have been told to submit their report. While speaking at a meeting on May 6, 2020, in Abuja, the minister for information and culture, Lai Mohammed, emphasised that the committee was to help the government assess the effect of the pandemic on the different industries and also advise them on how to handle job losses as a result.
